The Bay Ridge community is relieved that a ramp at Shore Road Park has finally reopened.
The entrance to the park closed in 2016 after the ramp caved in and became a safety issues for parkgoers.
Residents say although there are other entrances to the park, it was inconvenient to get to them.
"We've been here so many times since it opened," one parkgoer said. "It's hard to access this area without a ramp because there's really only stairs and we couldn't access the park for the kids."
Representatives for the Parks Department say the completion date for the ramp was pushed back for construction-related issues and because of weather during the winter. They say initially the issue with the ramp seemed to be a pothole but was later determined to be more extensive.
Brooklyn Borough Commissioner for the Parks Department said in part: “In the interest of public safety, we had to ensure the work met our quality standards. While the ramp is now open, we will continue to work throughout the summer to make targeted improvements at this site, include paving, fencing and landscaping."
He also said he is grateful for the community's patience throughout the process.
