About 50,000 runners pushed through the city Sunday, braving low temperatures and wind for the New York City Marathon.

The wind chill made it seem like the temperatures were in the low 20s.

The marathon route began at the Verrazano Bridge in Staten Island, then wound its way through all five boroughs before the finish line in Central Park.

Wilson Kipsang of Kenya won the men's title in this year's race. Two-time defending champion Geoffrey Mutai placed sixth, failing in his bid to become the first man to win three in a row since the 1980s.

Mary Keitany, also of Kenya, won the women's title, overtaking countrywoman Jemima Sumgong with about a half-mile to go.
