One of the busiest intersections in Williamsburg is getting some safety upgrades.
The Department of Transportation says it is considering widening sidewalks, making crosswalks shorter and making changes to signal times on Meeker Avenue. Officials say their ideas will be presented in a plan during a community board meeting in January.
According to city statistics, there have been more than 100 injuries and three fatalities since 2011 along the avenue.
Local politician Joe Lentol and pedestrian advocacy group, Transportation Alternatives, have been pressuring the DOT to make the troubled avenue safer.
