A city program kicked off Thursday to help neighborhoods still struggling to recover from Hurricane Sandy.
The Workforce 1 Sandy Recovery Center opened its doors on Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island.
The center pairs local residents with jobs and job training to rebuild the storm-damaged neighborhood. The program includes no-cost training for union jobs, organizers say.
Two years after the storm, homes are still being repaired, rebuilt and even elevated, according to city officials.
