The Scarsdale man accused of killing his 71-year-old mother went in front of a judge for the first time in person on Thursday.

The court appearance inside Scarsdale Village Court for 26-year-old Chester Green was brief, and filming wasn't allowed. The case was ultimately adjourned until October.

Meanwhile, the Scarsdale community continues to grapple with the allegations against Chester Green.

Chester Green was accused of stabbing and beating his mother, Marian Green, in July. She was found dead inside her home on Butler Road.

Chester Green was taken into custody and charged with murder in the second degree.

Marian Green was well known and loved in the community. News 12 was told she was an advocate for people with disabilities.

"Marian was a longtime and active member of the Scarsdale community who devoted considerable time to a number of causes, including her service as Chair of the Advisory Council on People with Disabilities. She cared deeply about the issues she took on, and her loss was felt across the community. My thoughts remain with her family, friends and all those who knew her well," Scarsdale Mayor Justin Arest wrote in a statement.

Chester Green remains remanded to the county jail.

News 12 reached out to his attorney and is waiting to hear back.
