Seven people were injured Friday morning when a small school bus overturned in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn.
Police say the bus was carrying students from Xavierian High School when it collided with a van on Narrows Avenue and 71st Street. They say the bus driver slammed on the brakes, causing the bus to overturn. Five of the seven passengers hurt were teenagers. They were taken the hospital for observation. Authorities say the injuries were only minor.
Residents say the Narrows Avenue intersection is known for accidents. They say a four-way stop is needed at the busy intersection. Department of Transportation (DOT) officials conducted a study, but residents say the DOT shot down the plan for a four-way stop.
