Some parents are voicing their concerns after learning that the former safety director of a Bushwick school was allegedly fired for trying to expose an 11-year-old's drug use in school.
Jorge Rodriguez says the drug use began at Bushwick Ascend Charter School at the beginning of the school year. He tells News 12 that he spotted a student inside the school with marijuana four times. He tried to tell school administrators about what he witnessed, but says they turned a blind eye.
He then told administrators he would report the problem to police, and he was fired less than a week later. However, school officials say Rodriguez was not fired, but instead resigned.
Parents say they have many questions regarding the situation, including why they were never notified.
Officials say the student involved was disciplined but remains enrolled at the school.
Rodriguez says he is considering taking the issue to court.
