Monday was the first day in weeks that schools reopened in former orange zones in Brooklyn.

Data shows the positivity rates in the zones are down, allowing schools to reopen.

All the areas that were considered orange are now down to yellow zones. Areas that are considered red zones still remain red zones, with strict enforcements still in effect.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the average positivity rate in the yellow zones is at 2.38%. Meanwhile, the statewide comparison is at 1.35%.

However, since it falls within the threshold for in-person learning, students were allowed to return to the classroom.

The governor says temporarily shutting down schools along with nonessential businesses shows it was effective in helping to control the spread of the virus.
