There will be plenty of new safety precautions as in-person learning starts today for grades kindergarten through eight.

The principal at P.S. 59 in Bed-Stuy tells News 12 they’ll be checking the temperatures of everyone entering the building.

At the beginning of September, the mayor and schools chancellor stopped at P.S. 59 to see how they were preparing for back to school. At the time they were still working out some of the details like figuring out if there would be outdoor learning plans as an option and ensuring the air filtration systems were all up to par.

That was Sept. 2 and at that time the principal said about 60% of their families had chosen remote learning. Later this morning, the school will learn exactly how many students will be back in the building this week and what changes are in place.

The school says for parents with students heading back to schools today to make sure they have a mask they’ll be comfortable wearing throughout the entire day.
