The search continues for a missing swimmer in Seaside Park.

The incident has brought on a plea from Fire Chief Dennis Vincent for all to stay out of the water when there are no lifeguards working the beach.

The man was reported missing in the water along the Decatur Beach at around 5:30 p.m. Friday. A search has been ongoing, but the 23-year-old - who police say is from Palmyra - has not been found.

At the time, there were no lifeguards on duty.

Lifeguards in Seaside Park are manning their stands only on weekends. That will change on June 20 when guards start working full time.

Some people visiting the beach Monday wanted to know if the swimmer had been found.

Some say they won’t get in the water without a lifeguard nearby.

“No, you need a lifeguard. I don’t care one or two but you need a lifeguard to go in the water, especially with the rip currents they got right now," said Roger Barna, who was visiting from Bound Brook.

This is would be the third confirmed drowning along the Jersey Shore in recent weeks. Others were in Surf City and Wildwood. All taking place when there are no lifeguards on duty.

The victim has not yet been identified.
