The sentencing of an off-duty Bronx traffic officer convicted of shooting and killing an unarmed drunken driver has been delayed.
A jury found Rafael Lora guilty last month in the shooting death of Fermin Arzu, who was shot after crashing his minivan into a parked car outside Lora's house.
Lora's attorney requested Thursday that his client get no prison time for his second-degree manslaughter conviction.
"We're working hard to show the court what a professional, excellent officer Lora has been his entire career and clearly is not in need of any incarceration," says attorney Stuart London.
London handed in a motion at the Bronx County of Hall Justice requesting that Lora's sentence be set aside because he shot Arzu in self defense.
Judge Clancy is expected to deliver a written decision on the motion June 11.
