Violent thunderstorms triggered flash flooding across New York City on Saturday, leaving parts of neighborhoods underwater.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings throughout the day and cautioned that flooding in some areas could become life-threatening.

The intersection of North 10th Street and Roebling Street in Williamsburg quickly filled with water as heavy rain overwhelmed the area.

At My Sight Eyecare, owner Diana Pan said floodwaters outside rose so high that customers could not leave through the front door and had to exit through the back.

"It's really scary when you're in the office and your customers are here, and we don't know how to get them out safely," Pan said.

Pan added that flooding has become a recurring problem, damaging her business several times a year and costing thousands of dollars in repairs.

She is urging the city to address the underlying cause of the flooding.
