A series of sidewalk monuments have been built in Brooklyn to raise awareness about gun violence.
Wooden black silhouettes are popping up throughout the borough to symbolize a life lost due to gun violence.
Local teens designed, cut and painted all 50 of the memorials and then placed them where people were shot and killed in the borough.
Councilman Robert Cornegy put the program together. He says the goal is to bring attention to the ongoing problem of gun violence and hopefully make people think twice before they pull the trigger.
The silhouettes will be up and on display for about a month.
