The first five retail licenses for marijuana sales in Connecticut have received preliminary approval.
The state's Social Equity Council is moving forward with five social equity applicants.
The state plans to pick six more applicants from a general lottery.
In total, the council will give out 12 licenses, at least to start
Next will come the background checks.
Stores could open by the end of the year.
