A Spring Valley father is facing charges after police say he physically assaulted his 4-year-old child and left them home alone. They also say the child's mother left them by themself.

Police say an officer was flagged down by a Spring Valley Department of Public Works employee near Chestnut Street and Furman Place on Thursday regarding an unattended child.

Officers say they went to the frightened child and saw substantial injuries.

When they went to the child's home, police say they couldn't find a parent or guardian.

The parents were later located.

Detectives say 36-year-old Paolo Chacaguasay-Evas, of Spring Valley, physically abused his child and left them alone. They say the mother, 35-year-old Delia Yuquilema-Cepeda, of Spring Valley, also left the child home alone.

Chacaguasay-Evas was arrested and charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Yuquilema-Cepeda was also arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
