The state is relocating its parole headquarters for Brooklyn to Gowanus, to the surprise of local leaders who say they were not contacted about the move.
Located at 15 Second Ave. in an industrial part of Gowanus, the building, which is currently under construction, is expected to be completed by next month. It is unclear when the parole office will move in.
The Gowanus Alliance was surprised to learn about the move, since they say the local community board was not asked for input on locating a parole office in the area. They have expressed concerns about what the influx of foot and vehicle traffic would mean for the neighborhood, and feel the state did not give community members proper input.
Business and community members will meet to discuss the issue at the Community Board 6 meeting tonight. News 12 was told state representatives from the Department of Corrections will be on-hand to answer questions.
