Local community members testified about their experiences with NYPD's stop-and-frisk policy at Brooklyn College Tuesday.

The City Council Civil Rights Committee held a hearing on the practice, which many attendees say has negatively impacted their neighborhoods. Others said they have been unfairly targeted because of how they look.

Supporters, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, argue the program is a necessary crime-fighting tool.

The goal of the meeting was to see what changes should be made to legislation that proposes new stop-and-frisk rules.
