WHAT TO KNOW
It will feel sticky across the Bronx and Brooklyn today as humidity remains elevated despite temperatures staying near seasonal averages. While a brief afternoon shower cannot be ruled out, widespread rainfall is not expected.
Monday will likely be the nicest day of the week with plenty of sunshine, seasonable temperatures, and somewhat lower humidity. By Tuesday, humidity begins climbing once again ahead of a prolonged stretch of dangerous heat.
Current forecast trends point toward a significant heat wave developing on Wednesday and lasting through the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Temperatures could challenge or surpass daily records, while heat index values soar into the low to mid-100s Thursday and Friday.
The oppressive heat and humidity may also spark scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms on Friday and again on the Fourth of July. Although coverage is expected to remain isolated or scattered, any storm could produce heavy rain, gusty winds, and dangerous lightning.
Anyone planning outdoor activities this holiday week should begin preparing now by staying hydrated, wearing lightweight clothing, limiting time outdoors during peak afternoon heat, and seeking air conditioning whenever possible.
