STORM WATCH: Hot, humid, with strong storms for the rest of the work week

Temperatures will feel like 100-degrees this afternoon and tomorrow with strong pop up thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and evening.

Hot and humid weather is expected for the end of the work week which will trigger pop up strong thunderstorms. Pop up storms are more likely on Friday than it is today, but evening commuters and people with evening plans should be aware both days for the possibility of damaging strong storms.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for the city today and tomorrow with heat index values near 100 degrees expected in the afternoon.

An Air Quality Alert is in effect starting 11 a.m. today.

Today: Hot with a pop up strong storm

A mix of sun and clouds is expected with temperatures in the mid-90s and heat index values near 100-degrees. A pop up strong storm is possible from 2 to 9 p.m. Although parts of the city will remain dry, those that get rain will see travel disruptions.

There could be damaging wind, hail up to 1 inch in diameter, downpours, isolated flash flooding and frequent lightning. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Stay weather-aware for the second half of the day as conditions can quickly deteriorate.

FRIDAY: Hot again with more storms than today

This will be a rinse and repeat forecast of today, with shower and storm chances fueled by intense heat and humidity. Highs in the mid 90s with feels like temperatures around 100-degrees. Rain is not expected in the morning, but strong storms are possible in the afternoon.

THE WEEKEND: Dry and Hot

Plenty of sunshine is expected for the weekend and the humidity will be lower. However, it will be hot with high temperatures near 90-degrees. Sunday will feature more clouds in the afternoon and storms are possible Sunday evening. However, the risk is low enough to keep the forecast dry during the daytime.
