As the storm moves into the evening hours, warmer air aloft will continue to work into the region, leading to a widespread changeover from snow to sleet across NYC and nearby areas. This transition is expected to hold through much of the evening. While sleet accumulates more slowly than snow, it can still build up and create a heavy, slippery coating on roads, sidewalks, and untreated surfaces.
Winds will remain gusty into the evening, especially near the coast, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph. These winds may continue to reduce visibility at times and add to hazardous travel conditions, even as snowfall rates decrease.
Later tonight, precipitation should become lighter overall. Some areas could briefly see freezing rain or an icy glaze before precipitation gradually tapers off overnight. Any lingering wintry precipitation early Monday morning is expected to be light, with conditions steadily improving as the morning progresses.
