We are tracking a strong nor'easter this weekend that will form south of us and move towards us. This could quickly intensify and strengthen, bringing the potential for major snow and wind to the area, but likely not for The Bronx.
The latest computer models continue to have this storm shifting to the south and east of us, which could bring the edges into our area. This could result in some low snow accumulation on Sunday. However, at this time, it looks even more likely to see the storm stay out of our area.
This is an evolving system, and even a slight shift of 20-30 miles could adjust the impacts in the city. So stick with News 12 as we track this storm's every adjustment.
Right now, along with light snow, we can anticipate strong gusts between 30-40+ mph, likely the strongest near coastal areas. With the full moon and this storm, we can also anticipate minor coastal flooding and the potential for beach erosion.
Friday will bring the seventh day of below-freezing temperatures. The core of the cold will last through this weekend with severely cold wind chills below zero during the morning hours. This will be the longest stretch of sub-freezing temperatures since 2018, which lasted 9 days. The record is 16 days, set back in 1961. Temperatures will climb to the 30s through next week.
