Police have released surveillance video from a nearby store of a fatal police-involved shooting in Brooklyn.
The video shows the moment four police officers fatally shoot Saheed Vassell, 34, on April 4, in Crown Heights.
Several police cars are shown pulling up to the scene in the video when officers jump out of their cars with their guns drawn.
People are seen running after police begin firing shots, fatally wounding Vassell who was holding a metal pipe believed to be a gun.
The NYPD says the footage is the only video of the shooting that is in their possession since none of the responding officers were wearing body cameras.
A spokesperson for the NYPD says the video was released in an effort to maintain transparency within the department.
Prior video released by the NYPD shows Vassell walking up to residents and pointing the pipe in their face as if he were simulating having a gun.
The state attorney general’s office is investigating the shooting.
