Loved ones gathered Saturday in Vinegar Hill for a street co-naming ceremony in honor of a Brooklyn man who was gunned down at a bus stop in 2017.
Dozens of people came to celebrate the life of Melquain Anderson. He was fatally shot while waiting for a bus outside of the Farragut Houses in October of 2017.
Loved ones gathered along Gold and York street, now co-named Melquain Jatelle Anderson Drive.
Family members say they had to fight for city officials to allow the street co-naming because they were told it was too soon for Anderson to have a street named after him. But they say they continued to push in their efforts to keep Anderson's name alive.
Loved ones say they have more events planned to continue their fight to end gun violence and honor Anderson's legacy.
