P.S. 177 in Gravesend celebrated the school's 100th birthday Friday.
Students and faculty reflected on the past century of this school and put on a show to commemorate the occasion.
Students dressed up as characters in storybooks as they took a journey through literacy with their performances. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students sang songs and played instruments to bring to life books that have been around the school for the last 100 years.
A number of elected officials were in attendance, including Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. He presented the school with a citation.
Principal Helen Stern says she’s hoping the school can continue setting students up for success. Stern said there will be special surprises for students throughout the year as they continue celebrating the 100-year anniversary.
