Friends and students of an accomplished sculptor and Medgar Evers College professor are mourning the man whose son allegedly bludgeoned him to death.

Police say Carlton Ingleton's 30-year-old son held his father and family hostage Tuesday at a Schenectady Avenue apartment in Crown Heights. Investigators eventually found Ingleton beaten to death at the scene. Police continued to search for clues Wednesday as the suspect underwent a psychiatric evaluation. Authorities say no charges have been filed against the man.

Neighbors and students are mourning Ingleton's death. They describe the well-respected artist, whose work is displayed around Brooklyn, as a father figure. His assistant at the college says Ingleton had the unique ability to connect with students.
