A safety report that was released Tuesday says millions of New York residents are in danger of getting seriously injured when using the city?s subways.
According to the report, compiled by Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D - Boro Park), the condition of New York?s subway stations is a sign of a deteriorating infrastructure.
Hikind says 60 percent of the 93 subway stations that were inspected in the past two months have severe safety hazards, including rotting wood separating from the platform, dangerous gaps between the train and the platform and poor repairs.
Hikind calls the neglect of New York?s subway system an ?inexcusable? and ?criminal? act.
The assemblyman also says the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has no right to even consider raising fares until all appropriate rapairs are made.
