Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone issued a voluntarily evacuation order for Fire Island as Hurricane Henri heads our way.

"We are urging residents and visitors to Fire Island to come off the island to leave Fire Island today for their own safety," he said.

Fire Island ferries will be canceled starting tonight and service will be suspended Sunday until it is safe – effectively leaving anyone who does not evacuate stuck on the barrier island.

Bellone also said the county is opening shelters at selected high schools across Suffolk and that all county parks will be closed Saturday evening through the end of the storm.
