It was a record-setting day for Suffolk Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr.’s school supply giveaway, with about 1,200 backpacks given out in an hour and a half.
“It helps us so much," said Christina Taylor, a mom from Rocky Point.
She was there with her son and nephew.
Kids got backpacks filled to the brim with supplies, as well as pajamas from EJ’s PJs, a food voucher courtesy of Texas Roadhouse, toiletries from the Allied Foundation and lemonade from Starbucks.
The event was held in partnership with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office’s S.T.A.R.T. Resource Center, which helps those who’ve been incarcerated (and their families) get support services.
