Friends and family are mourning the loss of a Sullivan County man who lost his life on the job.
Police say Aaron Terpstra was stacking up mats after trimming trees for NC Gilbert Tree Service when 50 to 100 pounds of mud mats fell of a truck and landed on him.
The 22-year-old went into cardiac arrest when he was pulled from under the mats and died at the scene.
Terpstra volunteered at the White Lake Fire Company, and his fellow firefighters are collecting donations for his family Monday and Tuesday.
Officers say people can drop by anytime between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Services are being held at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home on Route 52 Thursday night from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
