BREAKING: Worst Storm in 10 years possible for the city
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard warning for the entire city. Whiteout conditions are expected Sunday night through Monday morning. The last official blizzard in Central Park was more than 10 years ago in January 2016. The last time a Blizzard Warning was issued was March 2017.
Major Travel Delays Expected, Prepare for Power Outages
8 to 14" of snow is expected in the city with the potential for more than 14" of snow in heavier snow bands.
Wind driven snow will bring damage to trees and powerlines Sunday night and Monday. Winds will gust 40-50 mph during this time.
Major travel delays are expected all day Sunday and Monday. The storm is coming in from the south so this will likely delay flights at all major airports starting Sunday morning, before the weather deteriorates locally. Conditions improve Monday evening, but the effect on travel likely will linger into Tuesday.
Storm Timing:
Sunday morning will be mostly cloudy with scattered wintry mix. Some roads may be snow covered by noon, but generally light snow is expected in the morning. Conditions deteriorate Sunday after 4PM and blizzard / near blizzard conditions are expected 9PM Sunday through Monday morning.
Stray snow showers could linger into Monday afternoon, but the bulk of the snow from this storm will fall overnight Sunday into Monday morning.
Today's forecast
Pleasant weather is expected today with highs in the mid 40s. A few rain drops arrive overnight and could mix in with snowflakes Sunday morning. Conditions are manageable early Sunday.
