New York City is in for a stretch of very cold weather that will last through Sunday morning. Saturday and Sunday early morning low temperatures combined with gusty north winds will make it feel even colder, with wind chills dropping to uncomfortable and potentially dangerous levels. These cold conditions are the reason a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect. If you’re outside for long periods, be sure to bundle up, as prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia.
The cold will be most noticeable late tonight through mid-morning Sunday, with brisk winds continuing into early Sunday afternoon. While it will be windy at times, especially near the coast, conditions are not expected to be severe enough to require a wind advisory in the city. Temperatures will remain well below normal through Sunday, so it will feel wintry even with some daytime sunshine. There could be some minor coastal flooding Sunday into Monday as we are near a full moon phase.
As for snow, New York City is not expected to see any meaningful snowfall on Sunday. Any snow associated with this system is likely to stay east of the city, mainly affecting parts of eastern Long Island, and even there, impacts should be minimal. For the city, the main story is the cold—not snow—so plan for frigid conditions rather than winter precipitation.
