A Supreme Court ruling Thursday rejected race-based school diversity plans, a development that could affect whether a Brooklyn girl is admitted to a Bay Ridge school.

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 against school districts in Louisville, Ky. and Seattle. The justices rejected the practice of taking students' race into account when deciding which public school they will attend.

The ruling caused many states to review local laws encouraging the practice.

Nikita Raus, 11, and her parents recently obtained a lawyer after the Mark Twain School in Bay Ridge denied the girl admission. The school said Raus, who is of Indian descent, scored too low to be admitted as a minority. However, she scored above the requirement for white students.
