Surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows a U-Haul swerving onto sidewalks and injuring seven people and killing one person Monday in Brooklyn.
"What we saw today is a clear example why every moment of every day the NYPD must prepare for every possibility," said Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell.
Sewell described the driver's actions as a "violent rampage through Brooklyn" but said there was no evidence of "terrorism involvement."
The truck sped through the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn before police stopped it more than 3 miles away near the entrance to a tunnel leading from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
News 12 spoke to Jennifer Melough, who says she saw the U-Haul strike a motorbike near 75th and Fifth as she looked for a parking spot to have lunch.
"We heard a smash sound and turned and saw him in his U-Haul driving down the wrong side of the street," says Melough.
The driver was arrested.
