An advocacy group is calling out the MTA on what it calls "clearly unacceptable" conditions on subway platforms throughout the city.
According to the Straphangers Campaign, peeling paint, graffiti and rats are plaguing train stops. Surveyors also found exposed wires and broken lights on a number of platforms.
The survey was based on observations at 120 randomly selected subway stations, which is about 25 percent of all stops in the city. The MTA says that improving the appearance and cleanliness of the system's nearly 500 stations is among its top priorities.
