A jury found Robert Ellis not guilty of aggravated murder and aggravated attempted murder charges in the 2007 shooting death of Detective Russel Timoshenko Wednesday evening.
Ellis, who was one of three men accused of murdering Timoshenko, was found guilty of three counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Closing arguments were presented early Wednesday for two of the three suspects in the case, including Ellis. Throughout the trial, Ellis and his attorney maintained that he was the driver of the car and did not handle a weapon on the day that Timoshenko was shot and killed and his partner, Herman Yan, was injured. Ellis? attorney built his defense case on the absence of his client?s DNA and fingerprints from the guns.
A separate jury heard closing arguments in Woods? trial Wednesday. No verdicts for Woods or Bostic have been announced.
