Teacher's handout causes stir among parents, students
Some parents and students say a handout distributed Monday by a teacher at Edward R. Murrow High School is appalling.
The handout advises students how to dress at auditions. Several students tell News 12 that they could not believe their eyes when they saw it. News 12 has chosen not to name the teacher or any students to ensure their privacy.
One piece of advice from the sheet states: "If you have less than 10% body fat and we won't be distracted by any jiggling lumps and bumps, then you're safe. Otherwise be conservative."
Students in the class say their teacher gave them a new handout Wednesday, saying the previous one was taken from the Carnegie Hall website and had snarky comments that were not appropriate.
The teacher involved did not comment on the handout.
A city Department of Education spokesperson tells News 12 that the handout was inappropriate, should not have been given to students and that the incident is under investigation.
