A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot Friday night in front of his home in Bedford Park, police say.
According to neighbors, Juan Gere was playing basketball at the corner of Minerva Place and Creston Avenue at around 10 p.m. when he was approached by two individuals who allegedly shot him twice in the torso. Gere was later found lying on the street, gasping for air. The teen was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Local residents describe Gere as a respectful boy who got along with everyone in the neighborhood.
"He made the building what it is," says a neighbor who identified herself as Jackie. "He was friendly, played with everyone; he loved everyone."
So far, no arrests have been made in the fatal shooting.
