A Coney Island woman says that mold and mildew have overrun her Bayview Avenue apartment.
Stephanie Ahmed says the mold and mildew have taken over the walls and floors in her kitchen and parts of the bathroom. She says NYCHA has inspected the Gravesend Houses apartment more than a dozen times, but never made repairs.
Ahmed, who is six weeks pregnant, says she fears for the health and safety of her family of six, soon to be seven.
She has now enlisted the help of the National Action Network to try to get results.
"We are not allowing her to pay any rent until these conditions are done," says Rev. Kevin McCall, of the NAN.
Ahmed says NYCHA offered to move her into a larger apartment, but that space was worse than her original one.
NYCHA says no one was home when representatives went to Ahmed's apartment. It says rehabilitation work is scheduled to begin on Ahmed's apartment in December 2016.
