Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams joined with tenants of the Gowanus Houses to issue a demand that the New York City Housing Authority make emergency boiler repairs in its buildings and reinvest money saved when some buildings were converted from oil to gas.
Adams is also calling on NYCHA to have better communication with tenants so that tenants can track how long it takes for repairs to be made.
The New York City Housing Authority says it will use a $200 million investment from the mayor’s office to replace boilers and upgrade heating systems at 20 developments that consistently have problems.
It says it will also replace boilers, modernize heating controls, and improve water-heating technology.
