The elevator at Marcus Garvey Senior Housing in East New York is back up and running, after stranding residents inside for weeks.

“It feels nice and great,” said 74-year-old Yvonne Oxford. “Just to smell the fresh air...and feel the sun on my body.”

With her sandals on, and a steady strut, Oxford was on her way to the Love and Care senior community center Friday morning, reconnecting with friends she’s missed while stuck inside.

“Oh my God! I was so happy,” she said with a smile. “It’s helped me interact with people, and meet with people instead of being in the house, you know?

What she’s most excited about is being able to see her grandkids in Florida and celebrating her 75th birthday with her family.
