A 24-year-old man is undergoing psychiatric evaluation after police say he raped an elderly woman in East New York.
Investigators say the victim is an 88-year-old woman and the next-door neighbor of the suspect, whom she has known for years.
Selwin Worrell is charged with rape, sexually motivated assault and burglary.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday when police say Worrell went to his 88-year-old neighbor's home and asked her if he could come in, to pass through her home to get to another location.
Investigators say she let him in, because she'd known him for years, but that is when things got violent.
He then grabbed her by the throat, forced her into the basement, bound her hands behind her back with electrical cord and then raped her before running out of the house and down the street, police say.
During the struggle, police say her Life Alert device went off and EMS responded along with police.
Investigators say Worrell was arrested about half a mile away on Sheffield and Livonia avenues.
