New Yorkers were stuck braving this heat wave without power as outages stretched across the boroughs.
"We are suffering," said Alice Wilkowski, of Greenpoint.
"All of a sudden, the lights went out. I was checking everything," Greenpoint resident James Sullivan said.
"It's too hot inside. I opened the door, but it made it worse, so I closed it," Wilkowski said.
Greenpoint is one of the hardest hit areas.
"It feels like an oven," Wilkowski said.
"I have heart problems and that makes it worse for me," Jeffrey Carter said.
Neighbors in Greenpoint say it was a sleepless night after the power shut off it didn't take long to feel the heat
Con Edison is asking the customers to do their part by trying to conserve energy, meaning cut back on electric use as much as possible while it works to restore service.
"We will make the best out of it because we are New Yorkers," Carter said.
