A time capsule unearthed in Downtown Brooklyn was a disappointment to some waiting to get a closer look at history.
The capsule was buried 64 years ago at 370 Jay St., which was the MTA headquarters at one time.
Historians say the capsule wasn't well-preserved when it was buried in 1950, so most of its contents weren't salvageable. The capsule was infiltrated with mud, rust and corrosion.
The metal box included a newspaper, a nickel, copies of the building's original construction plans and some micro-film from that era.
Workers will try to salvage whatever they can from the time capsule over the next few months. They plan to put whatever they can save at an exhibit inside the Transit Museum early next year.
