A Throggs Neck Vietnam veteran is finally getting recognition for his service, nearly five decades after his death.

A tree has been planted in Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park and named in honor of Chester Schapanick, known to loved ones as Sonny. The Marine was killed during an ambush while serving his country.

Schapanick's brother, Frank, says he's especially excited because the tree is the first one people will see when they walk into the park.
