Weir, a guitarist and singer in the iconic 60s band, died at the age of 78. According to organizers, Weir performed at the Bowl several times since it opened in 2009.
Tuesday’s event in Williamsburg featured performances by a Grateful Dead tribute band called Bushwick’s Dead.
Attendees shared how the loss of an icon is affecting them.
"He's a cultural icon. The Grateful Dead has been so important to this community of jam bands, improvisational music, classic rock,” said Gideon Plotnicki. “Tonight is a big celebration. It's sad, but it's also a happy night to remember the memories and the impact of the Grateful Dead and how important they have been."
