Blizzard Conditions Expected Sunday night into Monday.
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Long Island from 1 p.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday. Visibility of less than a quarter of a mile, winds gusting up to 55 mph, and heavy blowing snow are expected to make travel near impossible and life threatening Sunday night through Monday morning.
Major Travel Delays Expected, Prepare for Power Outages & Coastal Flooding
12 to 24" of snow is expected on Long Island as we anticipate heavy bands of snow to develop by 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. Monday.
Wind driven snow will bring damage to trees and powerlines Sunday night and Monday. Winds will gust 35 to 55 mph during this time.
Major travel delays are expected all day Sunday and Monday. The storm is coming in from the south so this will likely delay flights at all major airports starting Sunday morning, before the weather deteriorates locally. Conditions improve Monday evening, but the effect on travel likely will linger into Tuesday.
Coastal Flooding will be an issue with this storm during the high tide cycles on Sunday night through Monday afternoon. 1ft to 2.5 ft innudation is possible.
Storm Timing:
Sunday morning will be mostly cloudy with scattered wintry mix. Some roads may be snow covered by noon, but generally light snow is expected in the morning. Conditions deteriorate rapidly Sunday after 4 p.m. and blizzard / near blizzard conditions are expected by 8 p.m. and continue through Monday morning.
Stray snow showers could linger into Monday afternoon, but the bulk of the snow from this storm will fall overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

A few rain drops arrive overnight and could mix in with snowflakes Sunday morning. Conditions are manageable early Sunday.
