RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE TIED
I hope you were able to enjoy some of what was an amazing sunny and much warmer-than-average weather day across most of Long Island. Islip MacArthur Airport hit a high temperature of 68 degrees just after 12:30 p.m. This tied the previous record for today's date, which was set in 2016. Today was more typical of May-like temperatures. The normal average high this time of year is 46 degrees.
AREAS OF FOG TONIGHT
Clouds will increase overnight with areas of locally dense fog forming. Please use caution when traveling, as visibility can drop quickly at times. Otherwise, tonight's weather will be OK with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. More areas of fog will be possible Tuesday night into early Wednesday.
BIG MARCH TEMPERATURE SWINGS
While many of us enjoy the warmer weather we are starting the week with, March can be a very up-and-down month of weather. Today, most of Long Island had highs in the 60s. More 50s and 60s are on the way tomorrow and widespread 50-degree highs will continue for Wednesday and early Thursday.
That said, it will start to feel colder on Thursday as a cold front comes through and drops temperatures into the 30s throughout the day with some showers. By Saint Patrick's Day next Tuesday, high temperatures are only expected to be in the lower to middle 30s! Keep all of the winter attire close by and enjoy this spring tease while we still have it.
ANY RAIN OR SNOW THIS WEEK?
While there are no major storms to worry about this week, there will be times of light rain and drizzle on Wednesday and some off-and-on steadier rain showers into Thursday, especially in the morning. Rain could end as a period of snow showers on Thursday afternoon.
Another couple of spotty showers will be possible Friday night into early Saturday and a better chance for wet weather returns Sunday night into Monday of next week.
ALLERGY SEASON UNDERWAY
If you have been noticing your seasonal allergies acting up, you are not alone. Tree pollen is now active and at moderate levels.
