Two school buses collided Tuesday morning on a Flatbush street still lined with snowbanks, highlighting the challenges drivers continue to face days after a winter storm moved through the city.

It happened around 8:35 a.m. on Lenox Road, between Bedford and Rogers avenues, according to the FDNY. Fire officials say two school buses linked as they passed each other on the street. No one was injured, and the incident was closed by 9:44 a.m.

Witnesses said the street felt tight for large vehicles, with snow pushed to both sides after plowing earlier in the week. News 12 observed a large truck also struggling to get through, while cars were forced to pull over and wait for one another to pass.

Officials say it appears the rear stop sign on the longer bus caught on the rear window frame of the shorter bus as they traveled in opposite directions. The buses became stuck side by side before eventually separating and clearing the roadway.

At least one child was on the smaller bus, along with attendants. Everyone involved was OK.

Neighbors say the situation could have been avoided if one bus had waited for the other to clear the street before passing.

“This is really ridiculous because they really need to clean this up,” said Lala, who lives nearby. “This is a hazardous thing for kids because kids do cross this road and anything could happen.”

While most main roads across Brooklyn have been plowed since the storm that hit Sunday into Monday, some residential streets remain narrow, with snowbanks limiting space for larger vehicles.

The buses have since left the area, but neighbors say the street conditions remain a concern — especially during school drop-off and pick-up times.
