A special celebration at the Universal Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx was held Tuesday night for hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty.
Lighty rose to stardom managing artists like Sean “Diddy” Combs and Fifty Cent.
Rapper Fat Joe, industry executives and fans honored his life. Lighty was 44 years old when he died in 2012.
Lighty’s friend, Mona Scott-Young says he touched the lives of so many.
“He was first part of the hip-hop music industry as an artist and then he transitioned into being manager,” says Scott-Young.
“Chris Lighty’s story mirrors the trajectory of hip hop itself,” says friend, Sophia Chang. “From its providence to how it grew into what I consider to be greatest most potent, global, cultural force there is."
The tribute was part of the museum’s “Know Ya Hip Hop” campaign.
