The Tokyo Olympics are just days away, and in the past 24 hours a slew of Olympic athletes testedpositive for COVID-19.

Tennis star Coco Gauff announced on Twitter she won't be able to compete.

Katie Lou Samuelson - a player on the first-ever women's three-by-three basketball team - says she got infected despite being fully vaccinated.

And CNN reports Kara Eaker - an alternate on the women's gymnastics team - will quarantine in Tokyo after testing positive.

 The recent spike in Olympic athletes testing positive has medical experts wondering if it's still worth having the Olympics to go on as scheduled.

"The virus is surging in Japan…this is kind of like trying to have a vacation during a hurricane, it seems to me imprudent.," says Dr. Jonathan Reiner, medical professor at George Washington University.

The Japanese Government and International Olympic Committee require rigorous testing for anyone who arrives - but does not require vaccinations.

Tokyo is still in a coronavirus state of emergency with the opening ceremonies just four days away.
