The United States is seeing a dramatic increase in syphilis cases as the medicine to treat the sexually transmitted disease is in short supply.
Over 36 public health groups are urging the White House to increase production of Bicillin. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says syphilis cases have risen 74% nationwide between 2017 and 2021.
Congenital syphilis, when a mother passes the infection to her baby during pregnancy, increased 203% since 2017.
The White House says it's working to fix the supply chain issues causing the shortage.
